Unit Title: Food and nutrition fundamentals
Prerequisite: A pass in Year 11 Home Economics examination or equivalent

Through the study of this unit, learners will explore foods that are available locally in the Solomon Islands. It is designed to help learners develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes about these foods and appropriately apply them to improve and/or enhance their nutritional status, including that of their families, and communities. Topics covered in this unit include; Food nutrients, traditional staples, cereal grains, cereal products, and starches, fruits and vegetables, eggs, seafood, meat, raising agents, food labelling, convenience foods, and junk foods.
