This unit is the first of the two foundational units on the study of physical geography. It is designed to help students develop solid basic knowledge and understanding of various aspects and theories of physical geography. Topics covered include the nature and perspectives of geography, spatial patterns and mapping, earth environment and systems, the hydrologic cycle, atmospheric temperature, air masses and weathering system, coastal process, landforms, and biogeography processes.
