This unit is intended to provide the mariner with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively as a crew member in abandonment from a merchant or commercial vessel. It gives opportunity for students to practice for what can actually happen at sea
BFP1	Basic Fire Prevention			6
This unit is intended to provide the mariner with the knowledge and skill to able to assist, respond to fire situations and to maintain the equipment used for fire detection and fighting. The students are provided with the opportunity to be involved in practical fire practices using various fire techniques and equipment
BFA1	Basic First Aid At Sea			5
This unit is intended to provide the mariner with the knowledge and skills required to provide primary first aid treatment to the sick and injured whilst at sea.
OHS1	Occupational Health & Safety			4
This unit is designed to provide the mariner with the knowledge and skills required to work safely and interact positively with others on board merchant and small commercial ships. Emphasis is on safety practices in all danger areas including health risk when exposed to STIs and HIV.
BS1	Basic Seamanship			4
This unit is optional and intended for students going to sea for the first time and focuses on practical training in handling of ropes.
